We are featuring one of our favorite Californian Modernist stone sculptures by Big Surs's local artist, James Hunolt circa 1970s. This specific design, known as "Mother & Child" is sculpted from white limestone and part of Hunolt's "Lovers" theme inspired by Italian painter Duccio di Buoninsegna's "Madonna & Child." His sculpted forms are pure, powerful, and reveal our common Human Condition, as shown by the mother hugging her newborn lovingly and gracefully.
