Hans J. Wegner Cognac Leather “Papa Bear” Chair with Ottoman for A.P. Stolen Møbler

These iconic “Papa Bear” lounge chairs were designed by Hans J. Wegner for the famous Danish workshop of A.P. Stolen in 1951. Originally named the AP-19, this model acquired the name “Papa Bear” when a journalist claimed that the chair looked like a bear hugging the sitter from behind. Its features include tapered teak legs and padded arm rests or claws that serve to conceal the tenon and mortise joinery underneath. Our expert craftsmen have professionally restored them to their original specs by upholstering them with a quality Italian cognac full-grain leather that will patinate beautifully over time. With their playful form and extremely comfortable quality, it has made them a classic marker of Danish Modern design.
