MEET THE DESIGNER
Aldo Londi
Vibrant colors and artistic textures are some features that identify Aldo Londi’s work. He crafted all kinds of pottery, from lamps to vases and clocks to animal figurines. Aldo Londi designs and talent with ceramics have made him one of the most relevant and pioneering pottery designers of the mid-century modern era.
Born in Montelupo Fiorentino, a town in Florence, Italy, Londi started experimenting with ceramics at a very young age. He began to work for a local ceramics manufacturer named Fratelli Fanciullacci when he was only 11 years old. During WWII, between 1935 and 1945, Londi was a prisoner of war in Johannesburg, South Africa. After the war ended, Londi returned to Italy and was named Art Director of the Bitossi studio.
