Early 1967 Poul Henningsen 4.5/3 Copper Sconces for Louis Poulsen
Early 1967 Poul Henningsen 4.5/3 Copper Sconces for Louis Poulsen
One of the most iconic architectural light fixtures from Denmark and designed by Poul Henningsen in collaboration with the famous light company, Louis Poulsen. Designed in 1966 as part of Henningsen's three-shade system that was first introduced back in 1925-1926 for an exhibition in Paris. His unique light fixtures are designed based on the principle of a reflective three-shade system, which directs the majority of the light downwards, creating a control glare and shadow. Henningsen was the first person to develop a scientific approach to light and use the logarithmic spiral as a basis to help achieve even distribution of light over the entire curve of the shade. The minimalist shades are made of beautifully patinated copper with a white painted undersurface, giving a warm soft glow and diffuse light distribution. These superbly crafted sconces were the last addition to his light system before his death in 1967.
