George Nakashima ”Sundra” Coffee Table for Widdicomb

George Nakashima ”Sundra” Coffee Table for Widdicomb

Spectacular coffee table designed by American master woodworker George Nakashima in collaboration with the Widdicomb Furniture Co., Grand Rapids, Michigan (circa the 1950s). Our coffee table is part of the Origins Line, "SUNDRA" Model 200. The table is constructed of a solid walnut top with a gorgeous inset of Carpathian elm over three flat tapering conical legs. The design features a simple, modern, and organic form that is beautifully complemented with its dramatic wood grains for a natural aesthetic. The table’s unique characteristic of subtle elimination of straight lines and edges that are beveled back ten degrees with a top that overhangs substantially more than is usual reflects Nakashima's "Soul of the Tree" philosophy. Stenciled underneath "SUNDRA”, “7/59" (July 1959). The original Widdicomb label is intact.
